Whether you believe that we’re hearing about more noose incidents because there really are more of them, or we’re just “noticing” them more (which begs the question of how they went unnoticed for so long…oh wait - part of that would be media that doesn’t always care about un-sexy things like racism) - at least they ARE in fact getting noticed - and what’s even better, is that something is being done about them.
People are actually saying “We won’t tolerate this. There will be consequences.”
So after four nooses were hung on a tree in North Carolina, the principle of the school said those responsible would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. She made sure to say it was a criminal act.
After nooses were hung at the University of Maryland outside the Nyumburu Cultural Center, police have been actively searching for the criminals who defamed the campus - and students of all colors demonstrated against the defamation.
When not one, but two noose incidents happened regarding the U.S. Coast Guard, the head of the U.S. Coast Guard as well as a U.S. Congressman are now investigating the incidents.
Hanging nooses is a threat of violence
When people can call hanging nooses or displaying other hate markers and symbols “a prank” and not a big deal you wonder Do people just not educate themselves, or are they that racist that they just don’t care, or do they just not have the capability to view a situation from another perspective?
You can’t yell fire in a crowded theater when there is no fire because of the imminent danger it presents. Likewise, hanging nooses and displaying hate symbols like swastikas or writing racist hate speech on walls presents imminent danger as well.
If you have never been discriminated against because of your race, you just may not quite understand that. If you’ve never been threatened with violence or experienced violence because of your race you may not understand that either.
But just like you can understand that waving a gun at someone presents a threat even if you’ve never had one waived at you, you should also understand that racist hate speech and the symbols that go along with them present the same threat.
And really - it’s a noose - a noose is for hanging people - what more needs to be said?

On that same topic - a recent article by Richard Thompson Ford in Slate a couple of weeks ago makes a point to say that the nooses didn’t present a threat and that what has happened in Jena could be a result of racism.
It makes you wonder if he and Michelle Malkin are working on a new book justifying slavery and the use of comfort women.
Don’t just take my word for it though.
