Call for Submissions for Midwest Asian Americans
Posted on October 11, 2018 by The Godfather of Asian American Theatre

The Asian Pacific American (APA) population is seriously under represented on stage. “Our Perspective: Asian American Play Readings” is a staged play reading series intended to provide inspiration, space, and audiences for Midwest APA playwrights, directors, and actors. These are script-in-hand concert readings where actors read plays written and directed by Asian Americans. Presented by Asian Improv Arts Midwest’s AA Arts Incubator, “Our Perspective” is the first ever Asian American play reading series in the Midwest. These history making events are long overdue. Co-produced by Mia Park and Tanuja Jagernauth. Our-Perspective.com

Lazy Rich Asians...And Jessica Gao

Thursday, October 11, 2018

You may have heard about this already last month - but maybe you didn't. If you didn't - hear you go:

What happens when you mix the insanity of Rick & Morty's Pickle Rick episode with the box office success of Crazy Rich Asians? The answer is a new series, pitched as "Lazy Rich Asians," that's in the works for ABC in the US. According to The Hollywood Reporter, writer and producer Jessica Gao is set to create the new series for ABC which follows the story of a young Chinese-American women struggling to balance the expectations of her overbearing family. THR reports the series will centre on Janet Zhao, a woman whose wealthy grandmother dies and names her as the sole inheritor of her will, making her the "unwilling new matriarch of the family."

Hmmm.

We will have to wait and see.

A Head Down For Indonesia...

Monday, October 01, 2018

I just wanted to pause for a moment to put my head down and give as much love and support as I can over to the motherlands in Indonesia as it looks like the outlook for those who've died in this catastrophe could reach into the thousands.

Indonesia air traffic controller hailed a hero for quake actions

An Indonesian air traffic controller has been hailed a hero after losing his own life while ensuring a passenger plane escaped a deadly earthquake. Anthonius Gunawan Agung, 21, was at the control tower of Palu airport in central Sulawesi when the 7.5 magnitude quake struck on Friday. He waited until the plane was airborne before jumping from the crumbling control tower. He died before he could be transferred to a specialist hospital. "Agung dedicated himself to his job until the end of his life and did not leave the control tower until the plane took off," Didiet KS Radityo, the corporate secretary for Air Navigation Indonesia, told the Jakarta Post.

Indonesia scrambles to help quake-hit island as death toll tops 800
Indonesian authorities scrambled to get food, aid and equipment into quake-hit Sulawesi island on Monday as the death toll from the disaster soared to 832 and looked certain to rise as rescuers struggled to reach devastated outlying communities. Dozens of people were reported to be trapped in the rubble of several hotels and a mall in the city of Palu, which was hit by waves as high as six metres (20 feet) following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake on Friday.

Aid Indonesia earthquake and tsunami victims
A 7.5-magnitude earthquake rocked the Indonesian island of Sulawesi on Friday followed by a massive tsunami, which killed more than 830 people. Hundreds of others have been injured and tens of thousands have been displaced as water smashed into buildings and swept away homes. The quake and landslides severely damaged roadways, hindering aid workers' access to victims. However, a few organizations are on the ground providing relief.

MSFW: Remarking On Kavanaugh....It Feels Like You're What They Say You Are, And That's Not A Good Thing

Friday, September 28, 2018

Dear BM,

First, I just prefer to use the initials of your first and middle name. It feels better because then I don't have to actually use your whole name.

Second--let's just air it out here.

Why prolong any more of this right?

Now I'm not trying to stereotype or anything, but c'mon--look at you.

You never got a little too fucked up with the football team?

With some friends?

Did some stupid shit? Puked up, maybe blacked out/passed out for a bit?

Never happened?

Seriously?

And then we're supposed to believe that "Renate Alumni" wasn't supposed to be about what it actually was?

Boasting about (supposed) sexual conquests--with Renate Schroeder (who denies them), who actually came to your defense at first, now not wanting to have anything more to do with you once she found out about the yearbook, where you and the football team basically called her a slut--like you all got a piece of her?

Think about it--she had to have felt betrayed. Like she really didn't know why she came to your defense and probably thought if he could put on a good mask like that...what else could he do?

After news of the yearbook broke, she said she didn't know what "Renate Alumnius" meant but would be sickened if its darker meaning was true.

"I can't begin to comprehend what goes through the minds of 17-year-old boys who write such things, but the insinuation is horrible, hurtful and simply untrue," she said in a statement. "I pray their daughters are never treated this way. I will have no further comment."

It doesn't look good...especially because you deny it all, and we all know you're not squeaky clean.

And then you look like this when you were up on your soap-box,

Or being an asshole, to a woman in power over you,

I mean, you kind of lost your cool today you know?

The temperament wasn't there and if anything it showed you could lose it.

And sure, you apologized for being a dick, but you still were a dick.

And your friend Mike....damn.

C'mon - we all know he has stories and the goods on you...

But now he's gotta fend for himself too...that's why he wrote that letter.

I'm not saying he's Leopold to your Loeb (or vice versa if that makes you feel better) - but if he got questioned in front of the committee, I feel like a breakdown could happen.

Like I'd be watching some of those final court scenes in Sleepers.

And we haven't even brought up Christine Blasey Ford's testimony--which--I mean....you deny all of that?

She was lying?

You can't even cop to some of it?

Oh wait - that's right - you didn't even watch it. You were preparing your speech for your soapbox.

I find that odd btw, as a judge who is "innocent" that you wouldn't want to view EVIDENCE - and it's not like it was this 3 hour long statement...

You know what I think?

I think you didn't want to listen to it, because it would bring up memories.

Memories you wanted to forget.

Well....here's to hoping another week makes a difference and maybe you just bow out now...,

Asian Americans We Need A 401K Plan

Thursday, September 27, 2018

While I have a little bit of an issue with the title - I feel what he's throwing down (and know he's trying to help out and shed some light on some shit):

The growth in the income disparity is partially due to decades of stagnation in income levels for Asian-Americans in the bottom income brackets. The incomes of Asian-Americans at the 10th percentile grew by only 11% from 1970 to 2016, which is equal to an annual increase of less than 0.3%. These gains are less than for any other racial, ethnic and income group. This slow growth of incomes at the bottom of the income scale results from more immigration and fewer opportunities to get ahead for people with limited resources in the forms of education, savings and networks. Many new immigrants, especially from countries such as Myanmar and Bhutan end up working in low paying jobs with no benefits for long periods of time.

The lack of good labor market opportunities means that many Asian-Americans have fewer retirement benefits than is the case for whites. Looking only at families in the bottom of the income distribution, only 10.4% of Asian-Americans had a defined benefit (DB) pension from 2010 to 2016, compared to 34.9% of whites.

This massive gap in pension coverage is not offset by more savings in 401(k)s or IRAs for Asian-Americans. On the contrary, lower-income Asian-Americans were slightly less likely to have a retirement account from 2010 to 2016 – 32.5% compared to 33.1% for whites -- and had smaller balances -- $15,349 compared to $19,976 for whites . The likelihood of financial insecurity in old age will thus continue to be greater for Asian-Americans than for whites.

Fuck me.

I mean did you read those numbers?

0.3%.

Can I even get a newly made McDonalds burger for that?

Mostly?

P.S. Shin Lim Is Sexy As A MF

Tuesday, September 25, 2018

I had to do some catch up - but I watched all his performances on AGT as well as P & T Fool Us - where he fooled them not once, but twice - and I just think he's just another great hot Asian male, who only serves to provide the sexy that we need.

I feel like everyone else is feeling him too.

I don't know if he's gonna stay with his fiance, but you know - look at Lebron.

It happens.

On Asian Brah's/Mr. Asians/WTF Asians

Thursday, September 20, 2018

Let's just make sure to go on record and say Asian "Brah's" like this, while I'm sure serve some purpose in the world (even if just to walk over), still make me question their purpose in the world...

I'd say more - but it's already been said - no need.

White People: You Still Can't Use "Chink In The Armor"

Thursday, September 20, 2018

Again...I'm not sure if time just makes people forget (or I've been under a rock for too long so I didn't realize how bad it still is) but - just go to someplace that has at least 5-10 Asian Americans in it, and keep on using that phrase in a sentence.

I'm Gonna Blog The Fall And Winter Away (Maybe On A Chromebook?)

Thursday, September 20, 2018

Sure, sometimes it's a thankless, loveless, albeit I still have pants somehow, endeavor at times, but you know what?

Tell me what's new.

I'm just saying that 'cause I'm salty.

But only for a second.

Well probably a minute....

But I know the score.

That's why this place is still alive.

And by "place" I mean digital bits that could leave at any time (if Google would decide so).

Hmmmmm.....

On Soon-Yi Previn - That's What Happens When You Get Groomed Along With A Stern White Lady For A Mom MF's

Tuesday, September 18, 2018

If you read all the things she's coming out with, I won't deny she didn't have some hard things growing up, etc. but c'mon people....it's classic deflection - and nothing she says (well you know) - or rather should I say anything that she went through - it doesn't invalidate anything Woody Allen did - like you know marry his Asian step-daughter - or you know - molest his kids (allegedly.....).

It's all the same shit wrapped up in a clusterfuck of White Colonialism with a does of Stockholm.

Sierra Measelle's Apology Falls Short (AKA When White Women Get Caught)

Tuesday, September 18, 2018

I was reading the article down at AsAm News and let's just dissect some of apology:

1. "I am sorry for the ignorant, hateful comments".

I look at something like this where either you knew they were hateful comments or you didn't because there's a difference between ignorant comments and hateful ones because you know the hateful ones are filled with...well - hate...you have to pick or choose. When you attach "ignorant" to that part of the apology you're trying to give yourself an out (and hope others let you) - because you're connotating
via word proximity.

2. "I plan to transform this negative situation into a positive learning opportunity [...] as I have learned that these words and actions cause others much pain".

And by others, she really means her friends, family, and place of employment, because she knew what she was doing when she did it.

That's where - I get it - to be viewed as somewhat salvageable (in the White community) - you have to do this, but wouldn't it be nice if just one time we could get a real statement where it's more like

"I got caught saying some racist things on video, and I knew they were hateful racist things to say but I thought I still had the upper hand - because I'm a White Woman - but now that people have seen this - my friends, family, and place of employment - well - they aren't liking me right now because I broke the rule of saying racist things outside of 'The Family' and now they all look bad. Honestly, I still like to make fun of chinky people, but I'm not going to say anything in public anymore...so I hope I can put this behind me, until everyone forgets about it, and forgets about me."

Just be real.

And just for the record - whenever you make a job switch - someone will Google you - and those news stories will all come up.

Sure - you may get a job because someone who coincidentally is White leans over and tells you "Don't worry. I don't like those chinky bastards either and it's tough to tell the wet backs from the dog-eaters anyway and in the end they're all the same."

But hopefully - you actually won't be forgotten because *that's* what will really make a difference.

Public shaming and shitty apologies.
