Passing on some information about a show in DTLA tonight.
What: In collaboration with LAist, the non-profit, member-supported source for stories authentic to LA, and Grand Performances, the non-profit organization that provides free access to the global performing arts, PBS SoCal and KCET, Southern California’s flagship PBS stations, are hosting an in-person preview screening event, panel discussion and concert for the launch of the new season of ARTBOUND, the PBS SoCal/KCET produced arts and culture series. The Fri., Sept. 22 event in the Grand Performances space will allow the audience to screen ARTBOUND’s premiere episode“Chinatown Punk Wars” in advance of its broadcast and digital premiere. The film is a look at how two Chinese restaurants became the unlikely epicenter of L.A.’s burgeoning punk rock scene in the late 1970s. More info. About the episode in the attached press release.
The general event is FREE and open to the public. Opening remarks will begin at about 7 p.m. from Grand Performance’s Chief Executive Officer Rafael González with an introduction of the film by KCET/PBS SoCal’s Chief Operating Officer Jamie Annunzio Myers. The premiere screening will be followed by a panel discussion with LA-based popular punk rock band The Linda Lindas,musician/author/punk rock trailblazer Alice Bag (The Bags) and UCLA’s Jessica Schwartz, moderated by LAist Studios’ Antonia Cereijido. An audience participation activity will be facilitated by Chicxs Rockerxs South East Los Angeles.
The evening will conclude with a LIVE performance by The Linda Lindas.
