Somedays you have to take a rest.
Because you need a break, which is a privilege if you can do it.
Since my last post Alex Pretti was shot and murdered.
We were tired but we came to the streets to rally again, a day after we all came together to shut it down for a day, for something so beautiful.
Now we are being told ICE can arrest protesters, onlookers, press.
Basically anyone who is not pro ICE.
Today local Black journalist Georgia Fort was detained by federal authorities for covering the Citizen Church Protests (Don Lemon was also detained for the same reason).
There's a lot going on and I'm out there just like others, protesting, honking and whistling if I see ICE, documenting, being with family, trying to balance being safe but also not letting anyone intimidate myself or my family, buying from places I love, all immigant owned picking up a little more because that's what's needed.
If you don't know, where Alex Pretti was shot and murdered was on Eat Street, an area which is filled with great restaurants, many immigrant owned and run. Everyone is coming together there to help.
To be in community.
Tracy Wong from Mỹ Hương Kitchen opened her store to protesters and media who were being tear-gassed after Alexi Pretti was shot.
"Wong says she spotted Solina, Yehl and protesters running toward her shop.
“People start running so close to my restaurant, and I see that ‘boom, boom, boom,’ then I start opening up the door,” she says. “I say, ‘Everybody, come on in. Please, come in. Come in to be safe in here.’
There's a lot that can be talked about and shared and documented.
And there are so many amazing people who have been doing that (working on a list).
I just started documenting/posting up at https://www.pressandprotester.net.
Stay safe and warm and in community.
