Just thought I'd take this moment to pay a little respect to one of the best movies ever made.
And here's the Miramax trailer (just in case you wanted that one too).

Hmmm: Look For A Star
Monday, April 13, 2009So I actually just got around to watching Look For A Star and you know - it had its moments, but not a spectacularly great movie - it was just so so. At the same time maybe I'm just biased because from the outset I wasn't really sure how Andy Lau and Shu Qi would be on screen together chemistry wise - and by the end of the movie - I got my answer.
Just lukewarm.
I almost think if they would have re-wrote it to focus more on the other two couples it would have been better, but I guess it is what it was - a vehicle for two stars to be in.
If You Are The One is definitely better.
DVD: Miss Gold Digger & Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon
Tuesday, July 01, 2008So I sat down and watched two films last night, the SK romantic comedy Miss Gold Digger and the Andy Lau/Maggie Q epic Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon, and while I didn't mind the first, because it was kind of a fun romp through singledom and trying to find the right person - the ending was a nice surprise too, and I can see why it caught Han Ye Seul a New Actress award - I'd have to say that unless you just have to see every Andy Lau or Maggie Q movie, I'd probably wait until you were kind of bored to see the other.
It's not that Three Kingdoms was the worst flick you could see - it had some nice scenes and some good cinematography - but they used this stutter-step filming of the action segments that made a lot of it look like a bad Made For TV movie and at the same time the story moved too fast while it tried to fit in too much. You never really got to feel attached to a particular person in it versus something like The Warlords or Protégé, and in the end when you put everything together - it just wasn't that epic.
Here's the trailer for Miss Gold Digger

Film: The Warlords
Sunday, May 11, 2008While I posted on this film a while back about the awards it received, I just got a chance to sit down and watch this film myself - and while I could go on and on about how good it was, the way the movie really put into perspective the toll that war took on not just communities but on individuals, or how Jet Li, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro had some of the best acting that I've seen by them - it's really just easier to say go see the movie - because you won't be disappointed.
If you needed more prodding - here's the trailer again.

"The Warlords": Sweeping across Asia
Monday, December 17, 2007According to cinematical, the new Jet Li/Andy Lau film The Warlords is running rampant across Asia and its closest competition, the new Will Smith film I Am Legend (which looks pretty slick as well) may have some catching up to do:
Even as Will Smith battles for his life in I Am Legend, the film is set to fight it out with Hong Kong action epic The Warlords for box office supremacy in Asia this weekend. Who will win? Will and his dog will have to come from behind because The Warlords is already ahead.
If you haven't seen it yet, check out the trailer below
