Whether or not it's going to be any good - that I can't say.

I guess we'll just have to find out together.

Jet Li: Ocean Paradise

Thursday, August 27, 2009

A Jet Li film without him fighting?

Jet Li is returning to Chinese film with a reportedly non-kung fu movie after three Hollywood productions, a publicist said Tuesday.

Li is due to start shooting the movie — tentatively called "Ocean Paradise" in Chinese — Edko Film publicist Zhang Hongyan told The Associated Press in a phone interview Tuesday. The film, due to be released next year, will be directed by a newcomer, Zhang said, declining to give further detail before the official announcement at a news conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

Hong Kong-based Edko Film is the Chinese distributor for the movie.

The Chengdu Shangbao newspaper reported Tuesday that Li will not fight in the movie, but Zhang declined to confirm the report, only saying, "It's a movie that's very different from his previous movies."

Intriguing.

Just In Time: Jet Li

Monday, December 01, 2008

For any of you Jet Li fans out there, TIME has a nice three page article on the film star and philanthropist talking about his non-profit the One Foundation, the three movies he's made that tell everything he wants to say to the world, and getting it on with Donatella Versace (o.k. - that last part isn't true - but she is in the article...):

Established in April 2007, the One Foundation is Li's contribution toward that balance, and for its sake he has taken time out from films, becoming a full-time relief worker and traveling tirelessly on foundation business. This month he is set to appear at a Clinton Global Initiative meeting in Hong Kong. "Philanthropy is my passion and my life now," he says. "I wake up and eat and I'm thinking about it. I'm still thinking in the bath. I talk to everyone I can." It is difficult to name any other A-list celebrity, not even Bono, who has made such a total commitment. There are plenty who touch down in Africa between albums or movies, but none has actually walked off the job as Li has done, at the top of his game.

Film: The Warlords

Sunday, May 11, 2008

While I posted on this film a while back about the awards it received, I just got a chance to sit down and watch this film myself - and while I could go on and on about how good it was, the way the movie really put into perspective the toll that war took on not just communities but on individuals, or how Jet Li, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro had some of the best acting that I've seen by them - it's really just easier to say go see the movie - because you won't be disappointed.

If you needed more prodding - here's the trailer again.

"The Warlords": Sweeping across Asia

Monday, December 17, 2007

According to cinematical, the new Jet Li/Andy Lau film The Warlords is running rampant across Asia and its closest competition, the new Will Smith film I Am Legend (which looks pretty slick as well) may have some catching up to do:

Even as Will Smith battles for his life in I Am Legend, the film is set to fight it out with Hong Kong action epic The Warlords for box office supremacy in Asia this weekend. Who will win? Will and his dog will have to come from behind because The Warlords is already ahead.

If you haven't seen it yet, check out the trailer below
