Bruce Lee Gets A Stamp (Which Is Awesome) But I'll Still Disagree With The Post Office

Tuesday, November 11, 2025

From https://about.usps.com/newsroom/local-releases/nc/2025/1030-usps-provides-sneak-peek-at-2026-stamps.htm:

Bruce Lee

As the first Asian leading man in American film, Chinese American martial artist, actor and filmmaker Bruce Lee (1940-1973) captivated audiences with his skill, charisma and screen presence and inspired generations of fans. The stamp artwork by Kam Mak features a painting of Lee executing his iconic flying kick. It is set against what Antonio Alcalá, the art director for USPS who designed the stamp, calls “a calligraphic yellow brushstroke,” a reference to the iconic yellow tracksuit Lee wore in “Game of Death.” On the right side of the stamp, BRUCE LEE and USA FOREVER are printed vertically and angled to appear as if Lee’s kick were breaking them in half.
Nothing against the Post Office--which is doing a cool thing--but I still do think Sessue Hayakawa was the first Asian leading man in American film.

Bruce Lee Dot Com

Monday, July 27, 2009

I caught that brucelee.com was coming out via AngryAsianMan last week, and I've been checking it out over the weekend - and it's damn cool - so make sure to check it out if you get a chance.

P.S.

I'll completely admit that I just moused over the menu buttons for a while as I listened to the tunage in the background.

It's O.K. If You Cry A Little After Hearing About Moshe Kai Cavalin Who's Eleven And Graduating College...With a 4.0 GPA

Sunday, June 07, 2009

On one hand we can all marvel at the child prodigy who most likely is smarter than all of us put together - however - I do have some sage advice for the eleven year old with the 4.0 and a college degree who said the following in regard to video games:

I feel it's a waste of time playing video games because it's not helping humanity in any way
If video games aren't your thing, that's cool, but I hope you still try to enjoy your youth while you have it, because when you're eleven, technically you're still "cute" and you can get away with things that you're just not going to be able too later on down the road no matter what your GPA was or how many national martial arts titles you hold.

Randomly kick people in the shins and then hide behind your dad. Lick department store windows for no reason except to just gross people out. Sneak into a strip club and pretend your lost and have nowhere to go all the while taking in the sights that your college textbooks never told you about (without the $15 cover btw). Commit petty larceny. Pee off a bridge. Sneak a beer. Sell oregano to your classmates and then go back to the strip club. Just enjoy being a kid for as long as you can because once you turn eighteen all that goes on your permanent record and you're no longer looked at as cute and wayward, but a little strange and sometimes a pervert.

Maybe, One Day, Who Knows When, Bruce Will Get His Museum

Sunday, July 13, 2008

Who knows when it will actually happen, but at least they're still talking about it - even if it seems like it might never get off the ground:

Bruce Lee, the legendary kung-fu icon would surely have found a more direct and forceful route to sorting out his problems of heritage. The house in which he lived in Hong Kong's Kowloon Tong district has become the focus of a tussle between the territory's famously hands-off government, martial arts fans around the world and a billionaire businessman Yu Panglin. After an outcry, Yu withdrew his plans to sell the HK$100 million ($12.8 million) two-story house that Lee lived in for several years until his death in 1973 and affectionately called "the crow's nest." Fans protested, fearing that the place would be torn down to release its valuable land. Instead, Yu advanced plans to turn the place, currently being used as a 'love hotel,' into a Lee museum, but last week the government said that it will not provide any money for the venture.
A statue is great. But a museum would be even better.

Students Speak: "We Want Our Bruce Lee"

Thursday, December 27, 2007

Nice.

With over 1000 signatures already, and gaining more momentum, a group of students from the University of Washington are pushing for a statue of Bruce Lee on campus, where one in four students are Asian American:

When she closes her eyes, college sophomore Courtney Ioane can visualize the statue of Bruce Lee that she wants erected on the University of Washington campus. It is bronze and life-size -- not so big that it dominates the area but substantial enough to be noticed. And the legendary fighter would not be punching or kicking but sitting in a meditative pose.

"Bruce Lee was more than a martial artist," said Ioane, 20. "He also had an amazing philosophy of life. He's a cultural icon recognized all over the world -- except on this campus," where Lee studied for three years in the early 1960s.

Meditating peacefully, or blazed in bronze getting ready to fight, either way it's about time Bruce gets a statue there - read the full article here, as well as another down at UPI.
