Sure, you can talk about sponsors, you can talk about The Brand, but if I was Michelle Wie after finally winning after years of heartbreak and judging eyes, I'd probably do the same.

I may not have filmed it, but you know, that's just me - but only because I don't think I could handle the hordes of men and women knocking down my door after they saw the video, because who wouldn't want a piece of naked Viet Am goodness?

And I'm sure I'd probably taste good too but only because of the chicken grease oozing from my pores...

SEOUL, Dec 22 (Yonhap) -- Korean-American LPGA winner Michelle Wie donated 100 million won (US$84,500) Monday for teen breadwinners in her grandfather's hometown.

Wie handed the money to Lee Myeong-heum, the governor of Jangheung County, South Jeolla Province, to be used for teenagers there who financially support their families.

Wie was in South Korea to commemorate an anniversary of her grandfather.

Tiger Loses And Drops The F-Bomb, Yang Wins And Smiles Like The Happiest Mofo Ever

While I feel bad for the Tiger especially after his quote of "I should have won this fucking thing." you just can't help but love that Yang smile after he completed the sports "upset for all times":

He did that yesterday on the day when he went toe-to-toe with Woods and won. He made the back-nine, chip-in eagle that Woods is supposed to make in these circumstances. After his one wobbly moment - a three-putt on No.17 when he had a chance to take a two-shot lead to 18 - Yang came back and hit one of the most memorable last-hole shots in major-championship history, a hybrid from the first cut of rough that rolled past the cup and set up the short birdie putt that meant he had beaten Woods by three shots to win the Wanamaker Trophy.

All afternoon, as Woods kept hitting putts the announcers said should have gone in, as he kept making swings they said were marvelous and then produced shots that didn't set him up for easy birdies, you still kept thinking that the next putt or the next swing would turn things around against Yang. Because Woods had always made his living off guys like Yang.

Here's hoping a rivalry ensues and we get to see the two wrestle each other naked on the back nine cursing each other out sometime in the near future (and don't tell me you wouldn't be glued to the T.V. watching - because I know you would).

Congratulations Eun Hee Ji (And You Too Candie Kung)

I guess you can't always be a winner...unless you're Eun Hee Ji.

Eun Hee Ji rolled in a 25-foot birdie putt on the final hole Sunday to earn her first major championship at the U.S. Women's Open. Ji shot an even-par 71 in the final round to finish at even-par 284.

While she didn't win, Candie Kung who hails from Allen Texas didn't do too bad either taking 2nd place - the best she's ever placed in a LPGA Major.

Tiger Woods back in swing

He's back. Well, almost.

Tiger Woods isn't going to win the CA Championship at Doral. He's nine shots behind going into the final round. But Saturday's 68 was his best post-surgical round by far. There are some old feelings stirring inside the world's No. 1 golfer.

"I hit it great today. I hit it the best I've hit it in a long time. Granted, I haven't played in a long time, but still," he said.

At least the familiar smile was back - after a round.

Even though all I do is strip down, get naked, and make everyone else's life horrible when some places actually do allow me on the golf course (when I get "the need" every couple of years to hit white people's balls) - even I know 9 strokes is like 50 points down with 3 minutes left in the 4th.

There's really not a silver lining there.

But if you're Tiger you just need to show up, smile, and not bogey two holes in a row and everyone's still happy (especially sponsors).

Danny Lee Takes Over Europe Too

After becoming the youngest person to win golf's U.S. Amateur Championship last year, apparently 18 year-old Lee decided he needed to take over Europe as well:

Lee doesn't get any money - he's still an amateur - but he does get the distinction of being the youngest-ever winner on the European Tour. Lee is 18 years and 213 days old. The previous youngest winner in Euro Tour history was Dale Hayes, who claimed the 1971 Spanish Open at 18 years and 290 days. Lee also is the second amateur in Euro Tour history to win a tournament, joining Pablo Martin who won in 2007.

Lee is originally from South Korea, but his family moved to New Zealand when he was eight and Lee plays as a Kiwi.

8 Years And Counting No More: Anthony Kang

I don't play a lot of golf.

While I like the driving range, there's just something about the rules and me not being able to play naked that somehow makes it less fun for me - but if I were a golfer - and I was Anthony Kang - I'd be jumping for joy not only because of the $2 million for winning the Malaysian Open - but because eight years of being dry - as in winning a title dry - that's a long time.

Over the weekend the U.S. golf team ended a long winning streak by its European counterpart (who had won the last three contests since 2002) to take back golf's Ryder Cup - and one of the key players who helped do that, was none other than 23 year-old Asian American Anthony Kim who not only played well in his team matchups but also helped set the tone for individual play by beating Sergio García in the first of the singles matches.

Anthony Kim came in as a rising 23-year-old star, but a Ryder Cup neophyte. His talent was undeniable, but many wondered how he would handle golf's biggest stage. When the pairings were announced on Saturday night, their match, the first in Sunday's singles competition, was the instant eye-catcher.

The atmosphere on the first tee was electrifying, as Kim waved to the crowd and Garcia grinned at the blue European flags and singing fans [...]

Kim, five years Garcia's junior, was thriving in the Ryder Cup atmosphere. He smiled constantly, waved to fans in the fairways and played a free-flowing game. Kim was living up to the hype.

Both Kim and Garcia will certainly be stalwarts for their teams for many Ryder Cups to come, but it seemed that more was riding on this match than one point and Ryder Cup pride. As Kim leaves Valhalla, his performance has catapulted him to the upper echelon of the sport.

LPGA Gets A Clue And Rescinds English Only Policy

I've been putting up some posts on this and have pretty much exhausted what I've wanted to say on the topic - so now that I got news of the LPGA rescinding the policy on their English Only language rule there's really not much else to talk about except to note that maybe next time they'll think twice before installing a completely xenophobic policy, and at least ask their sponsors what they think about policies which are going to affect how not only the LPGA looks, but how sponsors look as well:

Facing substantial criticism, the LPGA Tour announced Friday that it would rescind a recently-announced policy that would have required players to learn and speak English [...]

"After hearing the concerns, we believe there are other ways to achieve our shared objective of supporting and enhancing the business opportunities for every Tour player," said LPGA commissioner Carolyn F. Bivens. "In that spirit, we will continue communicating with our diverse tour players to develop a better alternative." [...]

It had faced considerable backlash from across the sports spectrum and beyond since the impending policy was first reported last week. Among the policy's most vocal critics was California state senator Leland Yee, who called it "unfair, unreasonable, and discriminatory."

O.K. - I do have to ask one more question:

Now they talk about their diverse tour players?

I'm glad that all it took was a ton of media attention, sponsors threatening to drop out, a U.S. Senator, the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the Anti- Defamation League (just to name a few).

An Open Letter To Michelle Wie

Hey Michelle:

Hope things are going well. I know it's been a little while, and I'm still a little perturbed about your last disqualification - but I'm getting over it as I'm sure you are too.

I just wanted to write you and let you know that even though someone like Annika Sorenstam is giving you some hell for skipping a major to play on the PGA Tour this week, I'm all behind you because winning is really in the eye of the beholder and I like what you've been trying to to do - make the cut on the PGA tour and do something special.

And when you do - because you will - just remember that I've been behind you all the way so some gifts, free tickets, or anything else you want to throw my way - because 100 signed shirts by you personally could get me a ton of tacos al pastor - you just let me know and I'll get you my address.

Tiger Has Season Ending Surgery

So after Tiger endures sudden death to win the U.S. Open (which according to an NPR report was the most watched golf tournament on cable) apparently Tiger is out for the rest of the season because he's going under the knife to help rehabilitate his knee:

Woods said he tore the ACL while jogging at home after the British Open last July. He chose not to have surgery and went on a run that included seven consecutive victories, including the Dubai Desert Classic in Europe and his Target World Challenge, an unofficial event.

He did not play overseas late last year for the first time since 2003, hopeful that rest could allow him to play more this year. But the pain intensified through the Masters, where he finished second, and Woods said the cartilage damage developed from the ACL injury.

Talk about being Asian tough.

Earned: Michelle Wie Qualifies For US Women's Open

The Examiner

After a sixth-place finish at the Ladies German Open last week, Michelle Wie is looking on target to be playing some of her best golf in recent months, qualifying for the US Women's Open yesterday:

Michelle Wie, who withdrew from last year's US Women's Open, will give it another go after qualifying for the championship on Monday.

Wie fired a four-under-par 137 during a sectional qualifying event o clinch a spot in the tournament at Interlachen in Minnesota later this month.

The 18-year-old Wie finished one shot behind Kelli Kuehne in the event, in which each participant played 18 holes at both the Woodmont Country Club and Manor Country Club.

She birdied three of her final four holes at Woodmont to finish at 1-under 70 before carding a 3-under 67 at the Manor.

Golfer Mickelson amazed at Asia talent, singles out Chapchai

World number two Phil Mickelson has been amazed at the number of talented golfers in Asia, singling out Thailand's Chapchai Nirat as someone who could easily play in the United States. The American, playing at the Singapore Open, is on a rare foray to the region and admits that he knew little about the standards here before his arrival. But he says his eyes have been opened.
