Host A Japanese Game Show On MTV

Thursday, September 25, 2008

I caught this down at Nikkei View and while it does leave one wondering what they actually mean by a Japanese game show and what the person would be doing - if you're hip, cool, and between the ages of 21 and 35 - the next MTV game show host could be you!

MTV is searching for a host for a fun, energetic Japanese game show pilot. They’re looking for outgoing, articulate, spirited people who appear to be between the ages of 21 – 35 and appear to be Japanese or of Japanese descent. Candidates must possess bold personalities and a devilish sense of humor.

“People that exude a lot of enthusiasm, have wicked personalities, distinct styles and possess a unique charm on tape should apply ASAP. The perfect candidate would have a Johnny Knoxville-like appeal. If this describes you, please email nycastingteam@gmail.com immediately. Television credits are not necessary. Improv / comedy backgrounds are a plus. There will be compensation.
You can check out more details down at Nikkei View.

MTV's Top Pop Group Videos: Jazmin

Saturday, September 20, 2008

While they had a short life on AGT, hopefully they'll have a longer shelf life on MTV's Top Pop Group where they've lasted out a couple episodes and the judges and fans seems to like them (and their story) - although they do have some good competition.

Here's some video of Jazmin from MTV's Top Pop Group (sync is off a little bit).

Tila Tequila Goes Bi-Bye

Wednesday, July 02, 2008

Update: PM5

Favorite finale clip (because I didn't watch it, but thanks to Yahoo News and YouTube I didn't need too):

My only thought on this is that they should have at least given everyone some fake tears to put in their eyes, because nothing says drama like tears -- versus dry crying, because that's like dry humping - and that's just not fun.

More Tila News (because you know you want it):

Tearful Tila Tequila Misses Her ‘Shot at Love’

But Tila herself had a surprise coming when Kristy refused the key. “You love that I’m honest and that I’m true to my feelings and true about who I am,” she said. “If I take this key I’m not being true.”
A Shot at Love 2 with Tila Tequila: Season Finale Recap

Tila chose Kristy, and Kristy turned her down! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Tila cries asking why she would do this to her, and Kristy says she's confused and accepting the key would make her not true to herself. Tila feels humiliated and walks off, crying the whole way. She doesn't understand what she's doing wrong and why she keeps getting her heart broken.

MTV's That's Amore and Katherine Le

Sunday, March 02, 2008

Complete with Italian sausages hanging from the background and some sort of meat sauce swimming pool throwdown in the promos, we already know what That's Amore, the spinoff from A Shot At Love, is going to be like - and yes - there's even some Asian representation.

Here's 21 yr-old Katherine Le's audition tape:

You think UT might want to use this in their promo videos for attracting new students?

If you want to know more about Katherine check out her MySpace page or on iamonmtv.com. That's Amore starts tonight at 10 PM ET/PT.

Shanghai: Get ready for the Paris Hilton "debut"

Thursday, November 08, 2007

Will the horror never stop?

Is Shanghai ready for hotel heiress turned porno star/party all night/show her naked coochie/postpone that trip to Rwanda but have time to judge the Miss Universe Japan contest (because we knew you weren't going to Rwanda anyway)-Paris Hilton?

Apparently she is:

“I am very excited to be associated with the MTV Style Gala in Shanghai, not only because of my own personal interest and passion in influencing the style and trends of today’s youth, but it makes more sense now, more than ever, with the rising influence of China in the fashion world. I look forward to coming to Shanghai to experience this first hand,” Hilton said in a statement.

The multi-hyphenate will make her Chinese debut at the 2007 MTV Style Gala on November 23 at Shanghai’s Grand Stage. Event is jointly run by MTV Networks China, Shanghai Media Group (SMG) and CCTV 6 and will include notables from all over mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, including Liu Ye, Shin, S.H.E., Anthony Wong, Sammi Cheng, and Vicki Zhao.
Paris Hilton stepping on the same stage as Vicki Zhao and Sammi Cheng? Something just seems very wrong with that...let's hope everyone has gotten their vaccinations.

Korean star Rain joins with MTV to help campaign against human trafficking

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

If ever there was a good cause to spotlight and campaign against - it would be human trafficking - and half of all the people trafficked are from Asian countries, so its great to see someone as influential as Korean star Rain working with MTV to help in the cause. Here’s some more information:

MTV, one of the world’s largest and influential television network, has launched “End Exploitation and Trafficking” (EXIT), a global campaign to raise awareness about human trafficking. Along with Thai star Tata Young, Korea’s pop singer Rain has joined in the action as the front man for the Asia Pacific region.

More Tila, More Tequila, More Shots

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

Episode #2 has now passed and as far as celebrity/reality dating shows go - this is definitely different. The attrition of contestants is by far the fastest with the carnage and the clothes pretty much flying everywhere you look.

Sure - scantily clad pseudo sexual indiscretions while watching Tila and everyone else make out with each other is something MTV banked on for people to tune in - but as with everything else, once you get past the exterior (and you will - or at least should) it’s the dynamic of everyone together that proves to be the most interesting - especially the group mentalities of both the men and the women. You can argue that while the show is supposed to revolve around Tila Tequila - in some ways she’s secondary to the colorful group of people vying for her affections - and that’s not a bad thing either (for the show or for her).

Genuine Tequila?

As with everyone else that puts themselves into these situations - it begs the question of how much is for “true love” and how much is for simple entertainment and being on T.V. - and then you get to ask how much producers of the show influence the outcome of who leaves and who stays and how real is the reality T.V….

For what it’s worth - you do get the sense that Tila herself might make the decisions almost exclusively, as some of the people eliminated would have been good for the show’s drama level - but instead of drama - or virgins - the picks have actually seemed genuine to what she’s actually looking for (at least for TV romance).

Did the show come with a whistle?

Watching A Shot at Love makes you wonder what it would be like if someone like VH1 rocker Brett Michaels was put into this situation. Could he handle this much action and would he work the rooms any better than Tequila has done up to this point? No matter what you think of Tila Tequila herself - you at least have to admit that she’s good at working a room and directing the traffic.

So…

Bottom line - in the world of Reality TV dating shows - for what it is - it’s at least nice to know there’s some Asian representation pulling the strings and trying to do some things a little different.

Tila Tequila: A Shot At Love Premiere

Tuesday, October 09, 2007

Love her, hate her, want her - it doesn’t really matter - she’s arrived, and she’s brought her whole MySpace crew and their donkey peanuts with her for A Shot At Love on MTV:

Are you ready for the ultimate battle of the sexes? Well, you better be ’cause there’s about to be an all-out war over cyber hottie Tila Tequila!

Although Tila has racked up more than 2 million MySpace friends, she still hasn’t found “the one,” and she’s ready to do anything to find him — or her! This self-proclaimed “bisexual freak” has had her heart broken by men and women, and she’s tired of being alone. With our help, she’s inviting 16 luscious lesbians and 16 sexy straight guys over to her place for A Shot of Love With Tila Tequila.

Yes, it’s time for Tila to unfurl her freak flag and find true love.

At first, the guys and girls won’t know about each other. But once Tila narrows the field down to a few of her favorites, she’s going to tell them all that she’s bi. And when the two sides learn they have to vie for her affection, all hell breaks loose. There’ll be hair pulling, sucker punching, ball-busting and, er, even some butt waxing.

Oh, and let’s not forget threesomes. There’s bound to be at least a few of those. But all is fair in love and war, right?

Viacom and YouTube Part 2: Update on the banned video and being legal

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

Instead of carelessly uploading the video to torrents and mirrors as was threatened - but never actually done - Slant Eye For The Round Eye is taking the correct legal measures and counter-notifying the false claims of copyright infringment and asking YouTube to lift the ban on the video “When White People Go Bad: Episode #1 - Trisha Cummings” (at the same time, the previous post was deleted/edited).

More videos will be added in the future though, because you shouldn’t have to be a large company or organization with hundreds of lawyers to utilize Fair Use and the First Amendment, and everyone should be free to critique and make social commentary.

For those interested here is the counter:

TO: YouTube DMCA Complaints
FROM: **** ****, Slant Eye For The Round Eye

The video on the YouTube site, entitled “When White People Go Bad: Episode #1 - Trisha Cummings”, was wrongfully taken down because of a false copyright infringement claim charged by Viacom International Inc.

The video which previously was found at this url: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmX3m5FaVR0from the slanteye4theroundeye account, does in fact use clips from Viacom’s television production of MTV’s The Real World: Sydney, but does so under the guidelines of Fair Use for social and cultural critique and to illustrate an argument and point, specifically about racism , which is made very clear by watching the full video, which was wrongfully taken down because of the false charges from Viacom International Inc.

Slant Eye For The Round Eye is a social news and op-ed blog which sheds light on issues revolving around race, racism, and the APIA community. The video which was pulled down under the false copyright infringement claim from Viacom International Inc, was an extension of that same social commentary, much like current television shows that satirize or critique, current political, social, entertainment, and other public figures.

Because the video is clearly not in any infringement of Viacom International Inc.’s copyrights, but is used clearly within the guidelines of Fair Use, we are asking that YouTube remove the ban on the video and re-enable the video for viewing.
