The Slants, The US Patent And Trademark Office, And Taking A Survey

Thursday, April 07, 2011

As some of you know the band The Slants, are embroiled in a dispute with the US Patent and Trademark Office over their actual name and I received an e-mail about their cause which goes a little something like this:

As you're aware, our band (The Slants) has been fighting with the US Patent and Trademark Office over the right to protect our name. One of the most critical components of our case is getting a public survey from a 3rd party where the majority of respondents are APA's. We're not allowed to host the link because we need the results to be as objective as possible.
So there you have it. If you think an APA band should be allowed to call themselves The Slants, and trademark the name, and think that the US Patent and Trademark office shouldn't be telling an APA band that their name is racist - well - take the survey. And feel free to reprint.
