The LIFELINE Typhoon Ketsana Benefit

Wednesday, October 07, 2009

From my inbox to you:

Beginning on September 26th, Typhoon Ketsana struck Southeast Asia causing tremendous havoc in some of the most underprivileged communities in the world. With over a month's worth of rain falling in one day, cities and towns in the Philippines, Samoa, Vietnam, and Laos were left underwater in silt. Hundreds have joined the death toll, millions of people have been displaced, and entire communities no longer exist.

Specifically in the Philippines, the corrupt administration had already exhausted its emergency services fund prior to the Typhoons. It continues to take advantage of the support and kindness of the international community by most recently imposing a tax on all privately donated goods in the name of Typhoon Ondoy/Ketsana. LIFELINE is different from other Typhoon Ketsana benefits, because all proceeds will be going to non-government, grassroots organizations doing direct services in Typhoon Ketsana affected communities. We are working directly with GABRIELA Philippines, Pulong Kabataan, and Love Across the Ocean to circumvent bureaucratic overhead, and make sure the aid is received immediately by the survivors who need it most.
