Declare INDIE (DI) presents: Declare INDIE 3: Sweet Home Chicago. April 16th, 2010 at The Abbey, 3420 W. Grace St. Show starts at 9:30pm. Doors open at 9pm. 21 and over. $10 cover.

Celebrate the diversity of independent music in the Chicago Asian American community. From singer-songwriters to alt. rock, DI3 features performances by: Dawen, IBU, Parts Per Million, and Raman Sachdev, with DJ. Huu T. Ly and hosted by Lily Kim.

Declare INDIEpendence was created in 2008 as a concert to showcase Asian American music in Chicago originally during the July 4th weekend.

Dawen (Soul/R&B) - With what MTV Iggy calls, “an eclectically soulful style,” soul/r&b singer Dawen explores the gamut of American life, from identity, to social issues, to love, loss and redemption. His “Wake Up” music video was screened at the 14th Chicago Asian American Showcase and the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival. His debut album American Me is now available on iTunes and Amazon. A frequent guest blogger, Dawen is posting for MTV Iggy as he travels around the US and Asia on his American Me Tour.

IBU (R&B/Pop) - IBU or Inspired By U, is a multi-awarded Chicago based R&B/Pop group, whose major awards include winning the 2003 Chicago Music Opportunity Project, and the Best R&B Group at the 2004 New York Music Festival. Their albums, including the recently released sophomore CD have also earned several Critic's awards. IBU is a White Sox favorite, having performed the National Anthem 13 times at US Cellular Field. Their new album “Inspired By U” is available now on iTunes.

Parts Per Million (Alt/Rock) - Parts Per Million exploded onto the Chicago music scene in late 2008 quickly setting themselves apart as a singular and unique band with hooky choruses, hard edges, and epic violin passages. Their sound has been compared to that of Smashing Pumpkins, Jimmy Eat World, Weezer, Deftones, and Muse. With the debut of their music video “Racer” on YouTube, Parts Per Million is currently working on their third album to be released later this year. Raman Sachdev (Folk/Acoustic) - Raman Sachdev is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, recording engineer, and producer. While his primary genre is "singer-songwriter", Raman branches into pop and rock as well. His lyrics explore everything from the pensive to the comedic. He has placed in and won several international songwriting competitions (e.g. www.unisong.com, www.songoftheyear.com, www.songwriteruniverse.com), and
has licensed many of his full vocal and instrumental recordings in

Lily Kim (MC) is a Korean American journalist and media personality. Most recently, Lily worked as the Communications Director for Dorothy Brown's Campaign for Cook County Board President 2010. Her next project is for a new online show AsceneOnline.com where she will be exploring Chicago's Asian Culture and Lifestyle with Co-Host Lakhi Siap.

DJ Huu T. Ly returns to DI3 after DJing last year’s DI2. After transitioning from his college Top 40 days, Huu has been a fixture in the Chicago circuit. Now, Huu weaves the melodic sounds of progressive house with a touch of electro-house, tech-house and trance to shake things up.
