**** FILMS ****

FRUIT FLY
World Premiere
SUN 3.15 6:15PM CASTRO FRUI15
H.P. Mendoza USA 2009 82mins

The composer and co-star of COLMA: THE MUSICAL
returns with this loud-and-proud, indie-Asian-gay
hijacking of THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG that aims
his poisoned pen and catchy Casio keyboards toward
San Francisco and the performance artists, irritating
roommates, fag hags, leather bears and versatile bottoms
that sing and dance therein.

DIRTY HANDS: THE ART AND CRIMES
OF DAVID CHOE
SAT 3.14 9:30PM CASTRO DIRT14
TUE 3.17 4:30PM KABUKI DIRT17
Harry Kim USA 2008 93mins

Street artist David Choe’s complex life and beguiling
work is obsessively chronicled in this documentary
by Harry Kim. Following Choe’s meteoric rise—and
spectacular crashes—over the last eight years, DIRTY
HANDS paints a portrait of the artist in all his troubled
but creative brilliance.

YOU DON’t KNOW JACK:
THE JACK SOO STORY
SUN 3.15 2:30PM KABUKI JACK15
WED 3.18 7:00PM KABUKI JACK18
Jeff Adachi USA 2009 60mins

The inspiring story of actor and performer Jack Soo
(FLOWER DRUM SONG; BARNEY MILLER), an Asian
American comic pioneer who was born Goro Suzuki in
Oakland, California, entertained fellow internees at a
Japanese internment camp, and was later known in San
Francisco’s Chinatown as “China’s funniest comedian.”
An intimate look at race, comedy, and ethnic identity,
from Jeff Adachi (THE SLANTED SCREEN).
WORLD PREMIERE

WHITE ON RICE
TUE 3.17 6:45PM KABUKI RICE17
FRI 3.20 7:00PM CAMERA RICE20
David Boyle USA 2009 85mins

Forty, divorced and sharing a bunk bed with his 10-yearold
nephew, Jimmy sets out to find the girl of his dreams.
But his cringe-inducing courtship of a beautiful younger
relative ends up wreaking havoc on the whole family. A
decidedly quirky vision of a man desperate to postpone
maturity—indefinitely.
