Beating out Michaela Reis of Angola, left, and second runner-up Carolina Moran Gordillo of Mexico, Miss China has ended up with the title of Miss World 2007 - three years after Beijing lifted a ban on beauty pageants. On her title, the 23 year-old secretary, who was also the tallest of the contestants at 6 feet, had this to say:
There are 1.3 billion people behind me. I want to become a link between the Olympic Games [to be held in Beijing next year] and the Miss World Organization.)With the overwhelming appeal of beauty pageants in China (which you can chalk up to 54 years of being previously forbidden), her blog reached over one million hits from rabid fans wanting to wish her congratulations.
