Joshi Deka! That's Some Good J-Drama

If you're a reader of this blog you know I like my dramas and romantic comedies (I can't help it, I'm just fluffy like that) - which means that I couldn't help but like the Japanese Drama Joshi Deka! (ジョシデカ) aka Woman Detective which aired in fall 2007 on the Japanese network TBS, and at its heart is a detective drama (but with a lot of comedy too) starring Nakama Yukie as Hatakeyama Kurumi (the over eager rookie detective), and Izumi Pinko as Sakura Hanako:

Nakama plays an enthusiastic rookie cop whose only strong point is her marksmanship, while Izumi plays a veteran detective with the #1 arrest rate. The two work together to solve crimes, despite differences in their ways of thinking.

From the serial killer murders they have to solve throughout the episodes, to the acting from Nakama and Izumi playing as the new cop/old cop, to the themes of women in the police force -- and even the little side love story between Yukie and Ryu Shi Won who plays Sakura's son Park Ji Won (you have to see it to understand it) -- there was definitely a lot more to it than what I thought there would be when I initially decided to pick it up for a weekend view (which was a nice surprise).

Check it out if you get a chance at your local shop.
