50 Blogs/Sites And Their Myers-Briggs Personality

Monday, December 08, 2008

I happened to stumble upon something called Typealyzer which looks through blogs and tells you what personality they have (at least from the text on the page) according to the ubiquitous Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. So I decided to randomly enter in a few blogs (as well sites to see how it handled them or group blogs) and below are the results (listed in alphabetical order).

Random notes:

1. I didn't write these descriptions (I'm just reposting what the analyzer gave back to me with exception to a couple spelling errors) and for each site that you enter there's also an analysis chart for brain activity showing what parts of the brain were dominant during the writing - which I'm not posting.

2. I ran sites and blogs through late Sunday night early Monday morning and pointed them to the main content pages and I realize that sites may confuse the analyzer but wanted to throw them in anyway like I said above.

3. Obviously these can change depending upon the posts because it only looks at front page content (and it's in Beta) - for instance this blog (which I'm including in the 50) when I ran it through two separate times on two separate days has both a personality of ISTP - The Mechanics and ESTP - The Doers. So depending upon how much stock you put into this (if any) know that - but it's fun to check out either way.

4. Depending upon how much quoting you do of other articles, the more I'm sure that this has an effect on the output. It might be interesting to run a series of posts through the analyzer one by one and see what the personality is out of say 5 or 10 (if you have nothing better to do like me).

5. If you're interested in some of the workings/review of it you can check out the LingPipe Blog (Natural Language Processing and Text Analytics) as well as the Typealyzer site itself (specifically the About section).

The Types

Update: I've edited this to put the types here just once because the post got a little long.

ESTP - The Doers: The active and play-ful type. They are especially attuned to people and things around them and often full of energy, talking, joking and engaging in physical out-door activities. The Doers are happiest with action-filled work which craves their full attention and focus. They might be very impulsive and more keen on starting something new than following it through. They might have a problem with sitting still or remaining inactive for any period of time.

ISTP - The Mechanics: The independent and problem-solving type. They are especially attuned to the demands of the moment are masters of responding to challenges that arise spontaneously. They generally prefer to think things out for themselves and often avoid inter-personal conflicts. The Mechanics enjoy working together with other independent and highly skilled people and often like seek fun and action both in their work and personal life. They enjoy adventure and risk such as in driving race cars or working as policemen and firefighters

ESTJ - The Guardians: The organizing and efficient type. They are especially attuned to setting goals and managing available resources to get the job done. Once they´ve made up their mind on something, it can be quite difficult to convince otherwise. They listen to hard facts and can have a hard time accepting new or innovative ways of doing things. The Guardians are often happy working in highly structured work environments where everyone knows the rules of the job. They respect authority and are loyal team players.

ESFP - The Performers: The entertaining and friendly type. They are especially attuned to pleasure and beauty and like to fill their surroundings with soft fabrics, bright colors and sweet smells. They live in the present moment and don't like to plan ahead - they are always in risk of exhausting themselves. The enjoy work that makes them able to help other people in a concrete and visible way. They tend to avoid conflicts and rarely initiate confrontation - qualities that can make it hard for them in management positions.

ISTJ - The Duty Fulfillers: The responsible and hardworking type. They are especially attuned to the details of life and are careful about getting the facts right. Conservative by nature they are often reluctant to take any risks whatsoever. The Duty Fulfillers are happy to be let alone and to be able to work in their own pace. They know what they have to do and how to do it.

INTJ - The Scientists: The long-range thinking and individualistic type. They are especially good at looking at almost anything and figuring out a way of improving it - often with a highly creative and imaginative touch. They are intellectually curious and daring, but might be physically hesitant to try new things. The Scientists enjoy theoretical work that allows them to use their strong minds and bold creativity. Since they tend to be so abstract and theoretical in their communication they often have a problem communicating their visions to other people and need to learn patience and use concrete examples. Since they are extremely good at concentrating they often have no trouble working alone.

INTP - The Thinkers: The logical and analytical type. They are especially attuned to difficult creative and intellectual challenges and always look for something more complex to dig into. They are great at finding subtle connections between things and imagine far-reaching implications. They enjoy working with complex things using a lot of concepts and imaginative models of reality. Since they are not very good at seeing and understanding the needs of other people, they might come across as arrogant, impatient and insensitive to people that need some time to understand what they are talking about.

ISFP The Artists: The gentle and compassionate type. They are especially attuned their inner values and what other people need. They are not friends of many words and tend to take the worries of the world on their shoulders. They tend to follow the path of least resistance and have to look out not to be taken advantage of. They often prefer working quietly, behind the scene as a part of a team. They tend to value their friends and family above what they do for a living.

ESFJ - The Socializers: The social and opiniated type. They are especially attuned to the feelings of themselves and others. They tend to be very aware of the values of their peer-group and tend to see things as either right or wrong, good or bad. They tend to be traditional and value their friends and family the most. The Socializers are down-to-earth, practical people and very keen on making sure everyone is alright. This quality makes them enjoy social work places. Since they enjoy beeing and keeping things neat and tidy, they often also enjoy working in such environments.

ENTP - The Visionaries: The charming and trend savvy type. They are especially attuned to the big picture and anticipate trends. They often have sophisticated language skills and come across as witty and social. At the end of the day, however, they are pragmatic decision makers and have a good analytical abilitity. They enjoy work that lets them use their cleverness, great communication skills and knack for new exciting ventures. They have to look out not to become quitters, since they easily get bored when the creative exciting start-up phase is over.

ENTJ - The Executives: The direct and assertive type. They are especially attuned to the big picture and how to get things done. They are talented strategic planners, but might come off as insensitive to others needs and appear arrogant. They like to be where the action is and like making bold and sweeping changes in complex situations. The Executives are happy when their work let them learn and improve themselves and how things work around them. Not beeing very shy about expressing their ideas and often very outgoing they often make excellent public speakers.

And What Type Are You?

I wanted to keep on plugging in a lot of sites but I could only pump in so many and interestingly enough, some sites gave back an error - if yours isn't on here just go to Typealyzer and see what it is.
